Yahoo! Messenger & Yahoo! Chat Problems - 18th March 2007 13:02:08

We are aware from users of many problems with Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Chat:

Yahoo! Messenger Visual Defects in Windows XP and especially Windows Vista
No Yahoo! Voice chat available without a work around in Windows Vista, and not at all in certain setups
Yahoo! Messenger Chat room entrance is slow, takes many attempts, and produces errors
Yahoo! Messenger Chat screen loads behind other windows, doesn't show an entry on the taskbar, and remains hidden, although you are in chat
Yahoo! Messenger shows your ID on other peoples lists, or you see people's movements who are not on your list, breaching users privacy
Yahoo! Chat is full of automated 'bots' advertising pornograhic material and illegal gambling and investments sites.
Yahoo! Profiles showing error 999 when trying to upload pictures requires a workaround.

Much of the above has been ongoing for over one month, bugs in Yahoo! Messenger have existed since christmas. Many new releases have been brought out, but none of them address the above.

Yahoo! Messenger & Yahoo! Chat are free to use, but are not provided for nothing. Yahoo! receive money for each and every user who views their advertisers. Advertisers pay for these advertisements, and are being associated with the many problems above.

Recommended Action:
Contact Sarah Bacon, the Yahoo! Messenger Product Manager.
Leave Sarah and Yahoo! a Message on the Yahoo! Messenger Blog.
Shareholders and interested parties should visit and read the Yahoo! Plan B website which discusses fundamental problems with Yahoo!'s corporate structure, research & development and financial issues which affect every shareholder and stakeholder (including users) of Yahoo!.
Make a list of the companies who's advertisments you see, and contact these and tell them the experiences you are associating with their images and trademarks (e.g. are you viewing an advert for company X for 5 minutes while the chat screen is frozen "loading"? Tell company X you are associating their trademark with a poor service).

Yahoo! Messenger Voice chat and Vista

Yahoo! voice chat does not work in Microsoft Windows Vista, in any version or with any chat client. We do not know if Yahoo! will invest in changing the way voice chat works in chat rooms, or have any plans going forward to retain this feature.
